Sikkim Legislative Assembly Budget Session 2024-25 Begins Under Speaker Mingma Norbu Sherpa

The Sikkim Legislative Assembly Budget Session 2024-25 commenced today, presided over by Speaker Mingma Norbu Sherpa. Governor Om Prakash Mathur opened the session, highlighting a record voter turnout of 83.4% in the recent elections and the state’s resilience despite challenges from the COVID-19 pandemic and the Lhonak Lake burst.

 

 

The Governor noted Sikkim’s top gains in NITI Aayog’s SDGs assessment and achievements in health, education, tourism, agriculture, women empowerment, and environmental sustainability.

 

 

The budget for 2024-25 emphasizes electricity, water, and roads, aligning with the National Agenda of Viksit Bharat 2047.

 

 

Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang presented a budget of over14,490 crore rupees for FY 2024-25, focusing on youth employability, healthcare, agriculture, tourism, MSMEs, and infrastructure.

 

 

Discussions and voting on these bills are scheduled for tomorrow.
