Sikkim implements Odd-Even scheme to ease-out traffic congestion in Gangtok

The Government of Sikkim has implemented Odd-Even traffic movement for both Private and Government vehicles within Gangtok Municipal Corporation (GMC) from today.

 

This initiative aims to ease-out traffic congestion in Gangtok. The restriction is proposed from Mayfair Fatak to GICI, Zero Point. As per the order, the rule under Section 115 of Motor Vehicle Act 1988, will be implemented from 9:30 A.M to 12:00 P.M and 3:30 P.M to 6:00 P.M. The time between 12:00 P.M and 3:30 P.M has been declared as ‘window/exemption period to cater exigent tasks’.

 

Government and Private Vehicles having registration number ending with odd digits and even digits will be allowed to ply on National Highway 10 on odd and even dates respectively. 

 

Taxis and Government vehicles of Additional Secretary Level and above have been exempted from this initiative. Ambulances, Police vehicles, Fire tenders, essential services are exempted.

 

Media personnel are exempted by showing the accreditation press cards issued by the Information & Public Relation department. Self-driven West Bengal and Bihar private vehicles are exempted by showing valid ID cards, so that the tourists don’t feel harassed. For the wedding season, four vehicles are permitted and for funerals 10 vehicles are permitted on taking permission from the concerned departments.
