Sikkim Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya and Chief Minister PS Tamang participated in the state-level cleanliness drive as part of the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign, themed 'Ek Tarik Ek Ghanta Ek Saath' today near Gangtok. The governor administered the Swachhata pledge to participants. Speaking to media persons, Chief Minister PS Tamang appreciated the Prime Minister's initiative aimed at creating a cleaner and healthier nation, and highlighted Sikkim's participation in the endeavor and the state's consistent promotion of Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan.
Special secretary and mission director, Swachh Bharat Mission – Grameen, Benu Gurung informed that the venue was chosen as the venue for the event as it serves as the gateway to some of Sikkim's famous tourist destinations, including Tsomgo Lake, Baba Mandir and Nathula Pass and it also connects Gnathang GPU, a village identified under the Vibrant Village programme of the central government. She highlighted Sikkim's efforts in the Swachhta Abhiyaan, with a total of 115,657 hours dedicated to this cause.
The governor and the chief minister also flagged off a team of volunteers to Tsomgo Lake to participate in a cleanliness drive, in collaboration with the army and panchayats and villagers of Gnathang GPU. All other districts in Sikkim also participated in the Ek Tareek Ek Ghanta Ek Sath initiative.
