Severe flash floods, landslides strike the eastern Indonesian province of Maluku

Severe flash floods and landslides struck the eastern Indonesian province of Maluku yesterday. Heavy rains that began on Saturday led to the disaster in Ternate.

Local disaster management office said, 13 bodies have been recovered, with six individuals still missing.

Rescue efforts are ongoing as authorities work to assess the full impact of the devastating weather event.

Heavy rain causes frequent landslides and flash floods in Indonesia, where millions live in mountainous areas and near floodplains.

Around 1,000 personnel from a joint team have been involved in the search and rescue mission, including soldiers, police officers, local rescue workers, disaster agency staff, and volunteers from various institutions.
