In Ladakh, the minimum temperature has dropped further below freezing, plunging the entire Union Territory into a severe cold wave.
Nyoma, located on the India-China border, recorded the coldest temperature in Ladakh with the mercury plummeting to minus 20.3 degrees Celcius. Tangtse, another border area neighbouring Nyoma, registered a minimum temperature of minus 15.2 degrees Celcius. Meanwhile, the capital city of Leh experienced slightly milder conditions, with a minimum temperature of minus 12.6°C, while Kargil recorded minus 12 degrees Celcius. IMD, Ladakh has forecast partly cloudy tomorrow.
According to Sonam Lotus, Director of the India Meteorological Department in Leh, Ladakh experienced a colder season until the 24th of this month as compared to 2023. The average minimum temperature in Leh this December has been minus 10.1 degrees Celcius, which is one degree lower than last year’s average of minus 9.3 degrees Celcius for the same period.
