Sensex Rises 361 Points, Nifty Reclaims 25,000 Level

India’s equity benchmark indices ended higher today with Sensex soaring over 350 points and Nifty regaining its 25,000 level fueled by strong buying in IT, telecommunication, power, and healthcare stocks.

 

At the closing bell, the Sensex, which is a pack of 30 companies was up 361 points at 81,921 and the NSE Nifty was up 104 points at 25,041. Both the indices rose nearly half a per cent.

 

In the NSE, 150 companies hit their 52-week high, and 21 hit their 52-week low.

 

In the broader market at the BSE, the Mid-Cap index gained more than half a per cent and the Small-Cap index climbed more than one and a half per cent.

 

In the Sensex index, 22 out of 30 Companies registered gains.

 

The top gainers today were, HCL Tech and Bharti Airtel more than two per cent, Tech Mahindra, NTPC and Powergrid nearly two per cent and AXIS Bank nearly one and a half per cent. Conversely, the major laggards were, Bajaj Financial Services lost nearly two per cent, Bajaj Finance shed nearly one and half per cent and Hindustan Unilever declined nearly one per cent.

 

In Sectoral Indices at the BSE, 17 out of 20 Sectors traded in gains.

 

The top gainers today were, Telecommunication which got an uptick of two per cent, Utilities and Power nearly two per cent and Teck more than one and a half per cent.

 

The top laggards were, Oil and Gas which lost nearly half per cent, Financial services fell around 0.1 per cent and Energy ended flat with a slim loss.

 

The overall market breadth at the BSE was positive as out of 4,042 Companies, shares of 2,587 Companies advanced, 1,352 declined and 103 remained unchanged.
