Benchmark indices ended at their fresh closing highs today. Sensex settled above the record 75,000 mark for the first time while broader Nifty scaled a fresh lifetime high on gains in FMCG, energy and metal stocks.
The 30-share BSE Sensex jumped 354 points or 0.47 percent to close at an all-time high of 75,038. During the day, the index rose 421 points to hit a high of 75,105.
NSE Nifty advanced by 111 points to close at a record peak of 22,754. During the day, it jumped 133 points to reach a lifetime intra-day peak of 22,776.
In the forex market, the Indian rupee today ended at 83 rupees and 19 paise against the US dollar.
Gold prices at Multi Commodity Exchange for June contracts, were trading at 71,417 rupees per 10 gram. Silver prices were trading at 82, 670 rupees per kilogram for May contracts when reports last came in.
In intra-day trade, Brent crude was trading at 89 dollars and 90 cents per barrel, when reports last came in.
