Benchmark indices ended in the green on Thursday as market participants cheered the Fed’s dovish commentary and hints of three rate cuts this year.
The 30-share Sensex rose 539.50 points or 0.75 percent to settle at 72,641, and NSE Nifty gained 173 points or 0.79 percent to close at 22,012.
In the forex market, the Indian rupee on Thursday ended at 83 rupees and 15 paise against the US dollar.
Gold prices, at Multi Commodity Exchange for April contracts, were trading at 66,800 rupees per 10 gram. Silver prices were trading at 76,110 rupees per kilogram for May contracts when reports last came in.
In intra-day trade, Brent crude was trading at 85 dollars and 78 cents per barrel, when reports last came in.
