Domestic benchmark equity indices today ended nearly flat. The 30-share BSE Sensex closed marginally up by 10 points, to finish at 79,496, while the NSE Nifty50 ended with a slim loss of 7 points, to settle at 24,141.
The broader market at the Bombay Stock Exchange ended in negative territory. The Mid-Cap index fell over 0.7 percent and the Small-Cap index slipped over one percent.
In the Sensex index, 18 out of 30 companies logged losses. In the top laggards, Asian Paint tumbled over eight per cent, Tata Steel and Bajaj Finance, both shed over 1.7 per cent and Mahindra and Mahindra as well as JSW Steel, both fell over 1.6 per cent. Conversely, among the top gainers, PowerGrid surged over four per cent, HCL Tech added 1.6 per cent and Infosys gained over one and a half per cent.
In Sectoral Indices at the BSE, 14 out of 20 sectors ended with losses. In the top laggards, Healthcare declined 1.3 per cent, Commodities dropped over 1.2 per cent, and Metal lost nearly one per cent. Meanwhile, among the top gainers, Focused IT increased by over one per cent, Information Technology added one per cent and Teck gained by over half per cent.
The overall market breadth at the BSE was negative as shares of 1,530 companies advanced and 2,568 declined while 115 remained unchanged.
At the National Stock Exchange, 63 companies hit their 52-week high while 41 hit their 52-week low.
