Sensex & Nifty Hit Record Highs as BSE Sensex Reaches 81,868 & NSE Nifty Hits 25,011

Sensex and Nifty hit their record highs today, driven by the expectation of a possible Fed interest cut in September. The BSE Sensex added 126 points, or 0.15 per cent, to close at 81,868. The NSE Nifty added 60 points, or 0.24 per cent, to close at 25,011. The Nifty crossed 25000 points for the first time.

 

 

In the NSE, 209 companies hit their 52-week high, and 27 hit their 52-week low.

 

 

In the broader market at the BSE, the mid-cap index was down by 0.8 per cent, and the small-cap index fell 0.7 per cent.

 

 

15 out of 30 companies registered gains in the Sensex index.

 

 

The top gainers today were Power Grid, more than three and a half per cent, NTPC, 1.8 per cent, and HDFC Bank, nearly 1.5 per cent.

 

 

Conversely, the major laggards were Mahendra and Mahendra 2.7 per cent, Tata Steel 1.4 per cent, and Bajaj Finserve 1.2 per cent.

 

 

In Sectoral Indices at the BSE, 7 out of 20 sectors logged gain.

 

 

The top gainers were utilities at more than 2 per cent, power at nearly 0.9 per cent, and energy at 8 per cent.

 

 

Conversely, the major laggards were real estate 1.7 per cent, capital goods nearly 1.2 per cent, industrials 1 per cent, and

 

 

The overall market breadth at the BSE was negative; out of 4,048 companies, shares of 1,577 companies advanced, 2,383 declined, and 88 remained unchanged.
