Sensex, Nifty fall around half a percent

Domestic Benchmark Indices, Sensex and Nifty, fell around half a percent on Wednesday. In the broader market at the BSE, the Mid-Cap index ended down by 0.19 percent and the Small-cap index declined by 0.69 percent.

 

At close, the Sensex plunged 427 points, or 0.53 percent, to close at 79,925. Nifty fell 109 points, or 0.45 percent, to settle at 24,324.

 

In the forex market, Indian rupee depreciated two paise to close at 83 rupees and 51 paisa against US dollar.

 

In Multi Commodity Exchange, Gold prices were trading up today. The precious metal, for August contract, was up by 0.6 percent and trading at 72,832 rupees per 10 grams, whereas Silver for September contract, was up by 0.51 percent and trading at 93,445 rupees per kilogram when the reports last came in.

 

In the Global Crude Market, Brent crude was down by 0.33 percent, to 84 dollars and 38 cents per barrel, when reports last came in.
