India’s equity benchmark indices, Sensex and Nifty ended on a positive note in a volatile trading session amid mixed global cues. Nifty50 reached a new all-time high during the session, although profit booking in the last session dragged the index lower to settle at 25,052 with gains of 35 points or 0.14 per cent. The Sensex closed the session 74 points or 0.09 per cent higher at 81,785.

In the broader market at the BSE, the Mid-Cap Index rose 0.04 per cent and the Small-cap indices fell 0.12 per cent.

In the Sensex index, 20 out of 30 Companies registered losses.

The major laggards were, Asian Paint which lost 1.24 per cent, Maruti lost 1.11 per cent and Nestlend shed 1.02 per cent.

Conversely, the top gainers today were, Bharti Airtel with a 2.2 per cent gain, IndusInd Bank with 2.17 per cent and Infosys added 2.06 per cent.             

In Sectoral Indices at the BSE, 15 out of 20 Sectors traded in loss.

The top laggards were Utilities with 0.44 per cent loss, Commodities with 0.40 per cent and FMCG with 0.38 per cent loss.

The top gainers today were, Teck which got an uptick of 1.31 per cent, IT gained 1.24 per cent and Health care added 0.91 per cent.

The overall market breadth at the BSE was negative as out of 4,056 Companies, shares of 1,815 Companies advanced 2,147 declined and 94 remained unchanged.
