Benchmark domestic equity indices, Sensex and Nifty, were trading higher with gains of over one and a half per cent in the afternoon trade today, led by a surge in the Auto, Information Technology and Financial Services sectors. The 30-share BSE Sensex jumped 1,229 points, to 79,737, and the NSE Nifty50 rose 382 points, to 24,125, when reports last came in.

The broader market at the Bombay Stock Exchange was also trading in positive territory. The Mid-Cap and the Small-Cap indices, both were trading over 0.4 per cent up, a short while ago.
