Sensex and Nifty Surge Over Half a Percent on Foreign Institutional Investors’ Strong Buying

India’s Equity Benchmark Indices, Sensex and Nifty rose more than half a percent today, aided by the substantial buying from the Foreign Institutional Investors. The Sensex rose 621 points, or 0.80 percent, to close at 78,674. Nifty gained 148 points, or 0.62 percent, to settle at 23,869.

296 Companies hit their 52 week high, 25 hit their 52 week low in Sensex. In the Nifty, 184 Companies hit their 52 week high, 12 hit their 52 week low.

In the broader market at the BSE, Mid-Cap index down by 0.29 percent while the Small-cap index rose 0.15 percent.

In the Sensex index, 18 Companies gained, 11 witnessed losses while Infosys remained flat. The top three gainers today were Reliance 4.09 percent, Bharti Airtel 3.07 percent and Ultra Cement 2.78 percent.

Conversely, the three major laggards were, Mahindra and Mahindra 2.02 percent, Tata Steel 1.79 percent and Tech Mahindra 1.1 percent.

In Sectoral Indices at the BSE, 10 out of 20 Sectors logged gains. The top three gainers were, Telecommunication 2.3 percent, Energy 1.45 percent and Oil and Gas 0.98 percent.

Whereas, Metal 1.46 percent, Realty 1.42 percent and Auto 0.75 percent were the only two laggards.

The overall Market breadth was negative. Out of 4008 Companies, the shares of 1922 companies advanced, 1960 declined and 126 remain unchanged.
