Sensex and Nifty Close Higher on Positive Global Cues

Domestic benchmark indices ended higher today. The Sensex and the Nifty climbed amid positive global cues following the Federal Reserve’s policy meeting minutes, which indicated a strong likelihood of a rate cut next month.
 
 
At the closing bell, the BSE Sensex closed 147 points, or 0.18 per cent higher at 81,053. The NSE Nifty also ended up by 41 points, or 0.17 per cent, at 24,811.
The BSE midcap and smallcap indices rose around half a per cent each.
 
 
In the Sensex index, 17 out of 30 companies registered gains. The top gainers today were Bharti Airtel 1.5 per cent, TATA Steel 1.4 per cent, and ICICI Bank 1.3 per cent. Conversely, the major laggards were TATA Motors 1.5 per cent, Mahindra & Mahindra 1.3 per cent, and NTPC 1.2 per cent.
 
 
In sectoral indicators at the BSE, 15 out of 20 sectors logged gains. The top gainers today were telecommunications at 1.60 per cent, commodities at 1 per cent, and consumer durables at 0.9 per cent. The top laggards were, Utilities 1.01 percent, Power 0.92 percent and Oil & Gas 0.31 percent.
 
 
The overall market breadth at the BSE was positive; out of 4,053 companies, shares of 2,454 companies advanced, 1,509 declined, and 90 remained unchanged.
