Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Dr. Virendra Kumar today stated that people need to celebrate cherished moments and honour the wisdom, resilience, and contributions of the older generation. Addressing a celebration event on the International Day of Older Persons 2024 in New Delhi, Dr. Kumar highlighted the vital role senior citizens play in shaping the community and emphasised that their dignity, respect and well-being must be prioritised.
The Minister noted that recognising the contributions of the older generation is essential for laying a strong cultural foundation for future generations. He added that the government is committed to the welfare of older people and plans to organise a large-scale event on International Day of Older Persons in schools next year.
At the event, the Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, B L Verma, also underscored that caring for the elderly is an integral part of the Indian culture and must be upheld. He remarked that the greatest gift one can offer to their grandparents is their time and urged everyone to cherish moments spent with them.
