The Supreme Court will hear a plea today seeking immediate action by the Delhi Police and a thorough investigation into the discovery of a large amount of burnt cash at the bungalow of Delhi High Court Judge Justice Yashwant Varma. According to the causelist published on the Supreme Court’s website, a bench of Justices Abhay S. Oka and Ujjal Bhuyan is scheduled to hear the matter.
Justice Varma, a sitting judge of the Delhi High Court, has come under intense scrutiny after a fire at his residence inadvertently led to the discovery of unaccounted-for cash. In response, the Supreme Court Collegium decided to repatriate Justice Varma to the Allahabad High Court, his parent court. However, Justice Varma has dismissed the charges, claiming that he is being defamed in the press.
