The Supreme Court will hear today a plea by the Editors Guild of India seeking protection from coercive action in two FIRs lodged in Manipur against some of its members. A bench headed by Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud is likely to hear the matter.

In a relief to four members of the Editors Guild of India, the apex court last week had directed the Manipur Police not to take any coercive steps against them till today in connection with two FIRs lodged for offences including promoting enmity between two communities.

The Manipur government had earlier filed an FIR against the president and three members of the Editors Guild of India for incorrect and biased reports on media coverage of the present crisis in the State. The Chief Minister N. Biren Singh had observed that the Committee led by retired Chief Justices under the supervision of the Supreme Court and Central Government have already initiated their investigations to find the root cause of the issue. He alleged, the Editors Guild of India was acting in a sub-judice manner to further fuel the crisis.
The Editors Guild of India, in its report had accused the State leadership of being partisan.
