SC Allows Kejriwal to Withdraw Petition in Liquor Policy Case

The Supreme Court today allowed Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal to withdraw his petition challenging the Delhi High Court’s decision to impose an interim stay on his bail in the money laundering case linked to the alleged liquor policy scam. Senior advocate AM Singhvi appearing for Mr. Kejriwal apprised a vacation Bench of Justices Manoj Misra and SV Bhatti that he intends to withdraw the current petition to file a fresh one challenging the final order of the High Court.

Yesterday, the Delhi High Court stayed the trial court order granting bail to AAP leader. The High Court agreed with the Enforcement Directorate’s allegations that the trial court did not hear the probe agency properly. The Rouse Avenue Court in the National Capital on 20th of June had ordered the Delhi Chief Minister’s release highlighting that the Enforcement Directorate had failed to procure any direct evidence linking him with the proceeds of the crime.

On Monday, the Supreme Court vacation bench of Justices Manoj Misra and S V N Bhatti declined any immediate relief and instead deferred the hearing of Mr. Kejriwal’s plea to 26th of June to await the High Court’s final verdict on the matter. The Delhi Chief Minister was arrested by the ED on 21st of March in the money laundering case linked to the alleged liquor policy scam. He was released on 10th of May by the Supreme Court to campaign for the Lok Sabha polls. He returned to jail on 2nd of June after the Apex Court denied him any further relief.
