The Rajya Sabha today took up the Bharatiya Vayuyan Vidheyak 2024 for discussion. The Lok Sabha has already passed the Bill in the Monsoon session this year.
Moving the Bill, Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu said, the Bill defines the design, manufacturing and maintenance of aircraft which will help the civil aviation industry with a legal framework. He said the Bill will replace the Aircraft Act, 1934 which has been amended 21 times. Mr Naidu said India is one of the fastest-growing civil aviation markets in the world.
Initiating the discussion, Syed Naseer Hussain of Congress said, the Bill needs separate regulations for drones and unmanned aerial vehicles. He alleged that 50 per cent of UDAN scheme routes are not functional and the fare cost has increased by 200 per cent.
Raghav Chadha of AAP sought regulation of food prices at airports and better connectivity to cities in India. He said that air tickets are very costly and should be regulated. The debate on the Bill will continue tomorrow.
