Major General Praveen Badrinath, Chief Engineer from Headquarters Eastern Command in Kolkata, along with Brigadier Manoj Gupta, Chief Engineer of Project Swastik of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), visited the disaster-affected areas in Sikkim to assess the damage to road infrastructure. They are developing plans to restore road connectivity to Dzongu Region, Lachen, and Lachung, while also exploring permanent solutions for all-weather connectivity to North Sikkim.
The Command Chief Engineer highlighted the importance of the Phidang bridge, which connects Dzongu Region and the Lachung and Lachen areas of North Sikkim. A newly constructed 320-foot Bailey Suspension bridge over the Teesta River is set to improve transportation, economic activities, and access to essential services in the remote Dzongu area. This infrastructure project, a collaboration between the State Administration and other parties, is expected to drive growth and improve the quality of life for the local population.
During the visit, Major General Badrinath also inspected the Namak Nallah, where a recent flood caused a 180-meter breach that was quickly restored by the BRO. He commended the workers for their swift and dedicated efforts.
