Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has said that over 60 percent of road accident deaths in the country happen in the age group of 18 to 45. The minister was addressing the ‘AMCHAM’s Technology Interventions for Road Safety: US-India Partnership’ in New Delhi.
Mr Gadkari underlined that the country is losing three percent of its GDP due to road accidents. He emphasised the need for proper assessment of reasons behind road accidents before providing any solutions. Mr Gadkari also underscored the Good Samaritans scheme of the government, which provides a reward of 25 thousand rupees to people for helping accident victims. The minister also urged schools to include road safety education in their curriculum to make the students aware of the rules and regulations.
