RJD held protests demanding nationwide caste based census and reservation reforms

In Bihar, the opposition Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) held demonstrations today demanding a nationwide caste-based census and inclusion of a reservation quota hike ratified by the Bihar legislature in the 9th schedule of the constitution, which provides immunity to law from judicial review.

Senior RJD leader and leader of opposition in state assembly Tejashwi Prasad Yadav participated in the demonstration at the party office in Patna. Other party leaders also staged demonstrations at district headquarters over the demand.

Mr. Yadav alleged that the BJP and JD(U) are against the upliftment of poor and deprived people. He alleged that the BJP has not allowed putting the state law regarding the increase of quota in the 9th schedule of the constitution. The BJP has alleged that in the name of a caste-based census in the country, RJD is only doing political drama. Party state general secretary Shivesh Ram said RJD is trying to mislead people in the name of reservation.
