In the Mega Auction of Indian Premier League 2025 edition, Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer fetched record bids, emerging as costlier players in the history of IPL, on Day 1 of the auctions held at the Abadi Al-Johar Arena in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia yesterday.
Lucknow Super Giants made history by securing wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant for an extraordinary 27 crore rupees, making him the most expensive player in IPL history.
Punjab Kings emerged as another major spender, acquiring IPL-winning captain Shreyas Iyer for 26.75 crore rupees and spinner Yuzvendra Chahal for 18 crore rupees, the highest ever for an Indian spinner. Arshdeep Singh also went to Punjab Kings for 18 crore rupees. Kolkata Knight Riders also went all out for Venkatesh Iyer and roped him in for 23.75 crore rupees.
A total of 72 players were sold and 12 went unsold on Day 1. Some of the big names that remained unsold after the day includes David Warner and Jonny Bairstow.
Well, at the end of Day 1, RCB have the highest purse left with 30.65 crore rupees, followed by Mumbai Indians with 26.10 crore rupees and then Punjab Kings with 22.50 crore rupees.
The second and final day of the Mega Auction will resume today. On Day 2, 33 capped names will go under the hammer, followed by an accelerated auction for both capped and uncapped players. All the 10 teams have been asked to nominate 25 players for the accelerated auction.
