In West Bengal, skirmishes between police and doctors were reported at Chandni Chowk area in Kolkata in the afternoon today when the agitating doctors were about to start the Avaya Parikrama, Durga Puja pandal yatra in the city demanding justice for the victim of the RG Kar Medical College. Yesterday the junior doctors of the West Bengal Junior Doctors’ Front announced that a puja parikrama would be organised from north to south of greater Kolkata demanding justice and speedy trial for the raped and murdered doctor and the brutalised class IV student of Kultali of Jaynagar of South 24 Parganas district.
Seven junior doctors in Kolkata and two doctors in North Bengal Medical College and Hospital are participating in the indefinite hunger strike. Their health condition is deteriorating gradually. On the other hand, senior faculties in medical colleges in West Bengal are participating in symbolic mass resignation.
