The result of bypoll held in Puthupally assembly constituency will be known today as the counting of votes will start from 8 am at Baselios College Auditorium, Kottayam. 74 officials have been appointed for the counting of votes. Counting of votes will be done in 13 rounds. 74.36 percent polling was reported on the election held on 5th Sep. 

The Puthupally bypoll assumes political significance as it will decide the successor of the former Chief Minister and Congress leader Oommen Chandy who had represented the constituency for a record 53 years at a stretch.

The main contest was between Chandy Oommen, the UDF candidate, Jake C Thomas, the LDF candidate and Lijin Lal the  NDA candidate.
