Solapur in South Maharashtra is one of the major political centers in the state. Former Union Home Minister and Maharashtra’s former Chief Minister, Sushil Kumar Shinde represented this constituency. Now his daughter is the Congress candidate from this constituency.
Akashvani Correspondent reports that Solapur Lok Sabha Constituency is reserved for Scheduled castes candidates. In the last 5 elections, Sushilkumar Shinde from Congress won in 1999 and 2009 while in 2004, 2014 and 2019 BJP’s Candidates won from this seat. Since 1999 either Sushilkumar Shinde or his family members have been in fray on Congress ticket. But BJP never repeated its candidate from Solapur. This time also, Party has not given the ticket to its sitting MP Dr. Jaisiddheshwar MahaSwami. BJP has fielded MLA Ram Satpute while MLA Praniti Shinde is a Congress candidate. Bahujan Samaj Party has fielded Bablu Gaikwad and Prakash Ambedkar’s Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi is supporting independent candidate Atish Bansode. A total of 21 candidates are in fray from Solapur Lok Sabha constituency. In 2019, Sushilkumar Shinde lost by more than 1 lakh 58 thousand votes. Solapur Lok Sabha Constituency consists of Solapur City North, Solapur City Central, Solapur South, Mohol, Akkalkot and Pandharpur Assembly Constituency. More than 20 lakh 25 thousand voters are registered in this constituency. This time more than 1 lakh 73 thousand voters are increased in this constituency as compared to 2019 general elections.
