Khandwa Lok Sabha seat has a significant place in the politics of Madhya Pradesh. Many big leaders contested and won elections from this important seat of the Nimar region. Akashvani Correspondent reports that Khandwa parliamentary constituency is known for Omkareshwar, one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of the country and also as Shankaracharya’s Gyanbhoomi. More than 21 lakh voters in Khandwa. Among these, the number of male voters is 10 lakh 65 thousand and the number of female voters is 10 lakh 35 thousand. A total of 11 candidates including BSP and independents are in the fray for Khandwa parliamentary seat.

 

However, the main contest is between BJP candidate Gyaneshwar Patil and Congress candidate Narendra Patel. Khandwa parliamentary constituency includes 8 Assembly constituencies. Out of these, seven are won by BJP and one by Congress. Since 1952, 19 elections and by-elections have been held so far. In this, Congress has won nine times and Jan Sangh and BJP candidates have won the election eight times. Khandwa parliamentary seat has been represented by stalwarts like former BJP national president Kushabhau Thakre, Nandkumar Singh Chauhan and Congress State president Arun Yadav.
