In the 2019 General Election, Adoor Prakash from UDF defeated A. Sampath from LDF. CPIM Leader Sampath had won the seat in both 2014 and 2009, pushing UDF to second place. The UDF secured a vote share of 37.87 per cent in 2019, while LDF garnered 34.07 Percentage. The Bharatiya Janata Party also made significant strides, with Sobha Surendran boosting the party’s vote share from 10 per cent to 24 per cent in 2019. This time all three major fronts had intensified their campaign with frequent presence of National leaders and Star campaigners. While the UDF tries to repeat their victory in Attingal, LDF sees this as a crucial battle to reclaim the seat. Meanwhile, the NDA candidate is hoping that the Central Govt initiatives will ensure chances of victory, making the contest more tight in Attingal.
