Well-known author and traveloguer Dr Meena Prabhu passed away in Pune today after a brief illness. She was 85. Dr. Meena Prabhu did her MBBS from B.J. Medical College Pune and worked in England as an anesthesiologist and general practitioner for about twenty years. Dr Prabhu traveled to many countries of the world and has written her travelogues. Her travelogues were published in various newspapers and magazines due to her special style of writing. Her first travelogue book was Mazha London. She gave interesting information and knowledge about different places in the world. Many of her books like Mazha London, Ejiptayaan,Turkanama, Grikanjali, Chini Mati became popular. Meena Prabhu was the president of the Mahila Sahitya Sammelan held in Goa. She also received many awards like the D.B. Mokashi Award, G. N. Dandekar Smriti Award, N. C. Kelkar Award, and Maharashtra Sahitya Parishad Lifetime Achievement Award among others. Many of her books also received Maharashtra State Awards. Dr Prabhu also started the “Prabhugyan Mandir” state-of-the-art Kindle library project in Pune in 2017.
