In Jharkhand, the relief and rescue operation after the Howrah- Mumbai train accident has been completed. Two passengers were killed and 24 passengers have been injured following the derailment of 18 boogies of Howrah-Mumbai mail this morning between Barabambo and Kharsawa railway station near Potobeda village under Chakradharpur railway division. The bodies of two passengers were recovered from the B-4 coach of the train. Injured passengers have been admitted to local hospitals.
The ill-fated train was going from Howrah to Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus in Mumbai. Stranded passengers were sent to their destination by special train.
The railway has announced an ex-gratia of 10 lakh rupees to the next of kin of the deceased. It also announced five lakh ex-gratia for seriously injured passengers and one lakh for injured passengers.
Rail traffic on the Tatanagar – Chakradharpur rail section of the South Eastern Railway has been disrupted following a rail accident. 11 Long route trains have been cancelled, six short terminated and 17 trains diverted. Top railway officials are supervising the restoration work.
