The rape and murder case of a postgraduate trainee doctor at a medical college and hospital has created an uproar in West Bengal. A lower court in Kolkata, has granted 14 days of police custody to the accused arrested in this case. The doctor’s body was found in the seminar hall of the medical college on Friday. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has condemned the incident and stated that she has no objection to a CBI probe into the matter. Kolkata Police Commissioner Vinit Kumar Goyel said that if the victim’s family requests an investigation by another agency, the police will support their decision.

Meanwhile, OPDs and indoor facilities at medical colleges and hospitals across the state have been disrupted, with only emergency services operating.
