Later, the Chairman adjourned the House till 2 p.m.

The Lok Sabha also witnessed protests by members of Opposition parties, including Congress, DMK, TMC and others. When the House met this morning, the Opposition members trooped into the Well, raising slogans against the government. They were demanding Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s presence in the House. Amid ruckus, Speaker Om Birla tried to run the Question Hour. He repeatedly asked the protesting members to go back to their seats highlighting that the Question Hour is important and MPs can seek answers from the government on significant issues. He said, such conduct of members is not appropriate.

However, agitating members continued with their protest, leading to adjournment of the house till 12 noon.

Earlier, both the Houses paid homage to great heroes and martyrs of the freedom struggle, and observed silence as a mark of respect to freedom fighters. The Lok Sabha also paid tribute to victims of Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings.
