The Rajya Sabha was adjourned for the day following the heated exchange of words between Treasury and Opposition members on the issue of a no-confidence motion against Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar. The motion had been brought by Congress-led Opposition. Mr Dhankhar informed the House that the House should reflect as to how many notices were received in the last thirty years against the Chair and also during his tenure. He expressed displeasure over the conduct of the opposition members and their objectionable statements outside the House. He said, the opposition has the right to bring a motion against him and accused them of violating the Constitution. He said, their resolution would be taken up after 14 days. He said the main opposition is deviating from the constitutional provisions time and again and running a campaign against the Chair. He appealed to the leader of the Opposition to spare time for a dialogue with him along with the leader of the House to end the stalemate. The Chairman said that he has shown the highest respect to the leader of the opposition Mallikarjun Kharge and sought his cooperation in the smooth running of the House. Despite repeated appeals, heated arguments continued leading to the adjournment of the House for the day.
