The Rajay Sabha was adjourned till noon today following an uproar over the issue of alleged objectionable remarks made by Samajwadi Party MP Ramji Lal Suman against the 16th-century Rajput ruler Rana Sanga. When the House assembled for the day, the treasury bench members raised the issue and demanded Mr Suman to apologize for his comments. Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar said that no national heroes should be insulted, and members should be very sensitive while making comments about such personalities. He added that one should not make such comments which may hurt the sentiments of people. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiu said that members should follow whatever the Chairman has said, and national heroes should not be insulted. He asked Congress and the other opposition parties to condemn the remarks made by the SP leader.
Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge said that everyone who has fought for the country should be respected. He, however, said that attacking the house of the MP and taking the law into hands by the protester is not appropriate.
Union Minister Piyush Goyal also took strong exception to the remarks of SP leader saying that it is condemnable. He also accused Mr Kharge of trying to give a caste twist to the issue.
Amidst uproar, the Vice Chairman adjourned the House till Noon. The issue related to alleged objectionable comments on Rana Sanga was also raised in the Lok Sabha. During Zero Hour, Rao Rajendra Singh of the BJP raised the issue and objected to the remarks of the SP MP. Another BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad, said he is an inspiration and the country will not accept any insult of such heroes. Samajwadi Party MP Dharmendra Yadav was also allowed to speak, but he could not complete his statement due to the noisy scenes. Later, the House was adjourned till 2 PM.
