Rain, snowfall bring respite to Kashmir, higher reaches witness snowfall

In Jammu & Kashmir, the plain areas including Srinagar have been experiencing rainfall since late last evening thereby bringing needed respite from a long dry spell across the Kashmir region.

 

The famous tourist resort town of Gulmarg and the surrounding areas while the higher reaches in other parts of the valley also witnessed snowfall. This has brought the day temperature down by several degrees.

 

The Meteorological Department has forecast wet weather in the valley over the next two to three days with some areas likely to receive heavy snowfall or rain during this period.

 

Kashmir has experienced a mostly dry winter this year with January and February recording a precipitation deficit of around 80 percent.

 

However, the wet weather spell, along with the forecast of more precipitation, has raised hopes among the people of reducing the high rainfall deficit in Kashmir.

 

Meanwhile,  there has been continuous rainfall in Ramban, Banihal and Qazigund areas along Srinagathe r Jammu National Highway with traffic plying normal on both sides, till now.

 

The traffic authorities have advised the travellers and tourists to contact the traffic control units in Srinagar and Jammu,  before planning their journey on the national highway and for tourist places.

 

The air and surface transport are likely to be affected because of the ion of inclement weather during the next two to three days.
