Union Minister for Railways and Information and Broadcasting Aswini Vaishaw has said that new Amrit Bharat train services which will provide quality services for the middle and lower income groups will be introduced soon. In an interaction with the media at the furnishing shed of the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai today, the Minister said that it was Prime Minister Narendra Modi,’s vision to provide world-class facilities to all the citizens of this Country. He said that Amrit Bharat 2.0 was launched to fulfil his vision.
Mr Vaishnaw highlighted transformative developments, including upgrades to Amrit Bharat train coaches with 12 significant enhancements for passenger comfort and safety. Plans to introduce 50 new affordable trains for lower-income groups within two years were also announced.
The minister unveiled upgrades to Amrit Bharat trains, featuring modular toilets, emergency systems, fire defences, and mobile holders. He confirmed the completion of the Modified Pamban Bridge, designed with international expertise, to improve connectivity.
To a query, the Minister said that Jammu to Srinagar Vande Bharat train services are yet to be completed since the route contains 97 tunnels and 6 km long bridges and it needs more trials.
He added that safety measures have been bolstered with over 10,000 locomotives now equipped with Kavach technology, a protective shield system. Further enhancements are planned for sleeper coach designs to improve passenger comfort during long journeys. These initiatives reflect the Indian Railways’ commitment to modernizing infrastructure, ensuring safety, and enhancing the passenger experience.
