Puthupally bypoll: Over 73% voter turnout reported

Polling of 73.05 per cent has been reported so far at the bypoll of the Puthupally Assembly constituency in Kerala. The polling percentage is expected to rise further as people are still waiting to cast votes who had reached the booths before 6 pm.
 
The Puthupally bypoll assumes political significance as it will decide the successor of the former Chief Minister and Congress leader Oommen Chandy who had represented the constituency for a record 53 years at a stretch. 7 candidates are in the fray. The main contest is between Chandy Oommen, the UDF candidate, Jake C Thomas, the LDF candidate, and Lijin Lal the NDA candidate.
 
Counting of votes will be held on Friday, the 8th of September at Baselios College in Kottayam.
