Punjab SIT questions former Revenue Minister Bikram Majithia for 8 hours in drug case

In Punjab, a four-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) questioned former Revenue Minister Bikram Singh Majithia for 8 hours in Patiala, yesterday, in a drugs-related case registered against him and three others under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) December 2021.

One of the members of the SIT, a senior police officer Varun Sharma informed the media, late last night, that the SIT has increased its area of investigation and has found an abnormal rise in Majithia’s assets and is also probing some financial transactions related to the case. He said suspicious financial transactions in some of his family firms in India and abroad are under probe. Mr Sharma further said that certain cash deposits in bank accounts also need detailed answers. There are four accused in the same case out of which three of them are abroad. Police are already in the process to extradite them to face the probe.

Mr Majithia, a former minister during the Shiromani Akali Dal government in Punjab, is the brother of former Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal and brother-in-law of former Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal.
