In Punjab, the procurement for Rabi Marketing Season is beginning today. All necessary arrangements have been made by the government in this regard. Akashvani correspondent reports that this time wheat has been sown in 35. 07 Lakh Hectare areas in the state which is likely to result in 161.30 Lakh Metric Tonne yield. The Cash Credit Limit to the extent of Rs. 30,776.36 Crore is needed, out of which more than Rs. 27 thousand crore has been received for April. The balance amount for May would be received soon.
The Punjab Mandi Board has announced 1908 regular purchase centres which has been allotted to the various agencies as per the advice of procurement agencies. The government has directed the Deputy Commissioners to ensure that the farmers face no hassles during the procurement. Apart from robust mechanisms for procurement in the mandis, special attention should be made to the basic facilities and there must be prompt payment to the farmers.
