In Punjab, a day after the decision in a high-level meeting to wage a decisive war against drugs in the state, a state-level Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) named “Yudh Nasheyan Virudh” was conducted by the police, today.
Quoting official sources, our Jalandhar Correspondent reports that over 900 Police teams, comprising over 8, 000 police personnel raided about 800 places in the state. This has led to the arrest of 290 drug smugglers and registering more than 230 first information reports (FIRs).
The four-hour-long operation has also led to the recovery of heroin, opium and other intoxicants including thousands of intoxicant tablets /injections.
A 5-member Cabinet Sub Committee comprising of ministers has also been constituted to monitor the campaign against drugs.
