Punjab Police arrest 2 over alleged plot to incite unrest, attack political leaders

Punjab Police have arrested two persons in connection with inciting unrest by opposing the extension of jailed MP from Punjab, Amritpal Singh’s detention under the National Security Act, and attacking some political leaders of the Central Government and others. They have been arrested after audio clips of their chat on their WhatsApp group ‘Waris Punjab De Team’ got viral yesterday, raising alarm bells amongst security agencies. Deputy Inspector General Faridkot Range, Ashwani Kapoor, told the media that four have been identified, out of which 2 have been arrested under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act for allegedly having links with terrorist organisations and some other sections of the BNS and IT Act. He said the police are searching for 30 to 35 other members of the group who were involved in anti-national chat.

Earlier, Union Minister of State for Railways and Food Processing, Ravneet Singh Bittu, on Sunday had accused them of plotting to assassinate him and other political leaders in Punjab and had demanded their immediate arrest. Similarly, Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia has demanded the immediate arrest of all members of the WhatsApp group and MP Amritpal Singh, who were allegedly planning the execution of high-profile politicians.
