In Punjab, the death toll due to consumption of alleged spurious illicit liquor in several villages of Sangrur district rose to twenty, with six more victims succumbed in hospitals. A special police team is investigating the matter and eight persons have been arrested so far.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission of India has sought an immediate report from the Punjab Chief Secretary and DGP in the Sangrur hooch tragedy through the Punjab CEO.
