The Puducherry government observed the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi today with a solemn tribute at his statue on Beach Road. Lieutenant Governor K. Kailashnathan and Chief Minister N. Rangasamy led the observance by garlanding the statue of Mahatmaji and offering floral tributes.
As a mark of respect, a two-minute silence was observed. Gandhian hymns along with patriotic songs were played during the function. Puducherry Legislative Assembly Speaker R. Selvam, Ministers, and Members of the Legislative Assembly were also present on the occasion.
Governor of Maharashtra C P Radhakrishnan today visited ‘Mani Bhavan’ the memorial of Mahatma Gandhi in South Mumbai on the occasion of the 77th Anniversary of the Martyrdom of the Mahatma. The Governor offered floral tributes at the bust of Mahatma Gandhi and participated in a prayer meeting.
Speaking on the occasion, the Governor appealed to all to rise above the narrow distinctions of caste, creed and religion. He asked the children to follow the ideals of Satya, Ahimsa and austerity practised by Mahatma Gandhi.
Mani Bhavan served as Gandhiji’s residence in Mumbai during 1917 and 1934. According to the history of Mani Bhavan, Gandhiji launched the Satyagraha in 1919 and the Civil Disobedience in 1932 from this place.
