Vijay Diwas, commemorating India’s historic victory over Pakistan in the 1971 war, was observed in Puducherry today. A wreath-laying ceremony was held at the Kargil War Memorial on Beach Road to honour the valiant soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the nation.
Puducherry Chief Minister N. Rangasamy led the tribute by placing a floral wreath at the memorial. Public Works Minister Lakshmi Narayanan, Agriculture Minister C. Jayakumar, and Adi Dravidar Welfare Minister Sai Saravanan Kumar also paid their respects by laying wreaths.
The event was attended by District Collector A. Kulothungan, Director General of Police Shalini Singh, Inspector General Ajit Kumar Singla, and Deputy Inspector General Sathya Sundaram. Several retired armed forces personnel, along with members of the Tri-Services Welfare Department and the Puducherry Police Department, also participated in the ceremony.
