Protests Erupt Across Kolkata Demanding Justice for R G Kar Medical College Rape & Murder Case

Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, ABVP, today organized a protest rally demanding justice for the R G Kar Medical College and Hospital rape and murder case at Salt Lake in Kolkata. They had called for a protest march in front of state health department Headquarters but police foiled their campaign and 25 workers of ABVP were arrested after a skirmish with the police.

 

Congress has also taken out a protest rally near Lal Bazar, the Headquarters of Kolkata Police. On the other hand, central trade unions have organized a protest rally from Esplanade to College Square  in Kolkata under the banner of Centre for Indian Trade Unions CITU demanding resignation of chief minister Mamata Banerjee and Kolkata Police Commissioner in the R G Kar case.

 

Meanwhile, the Central Bureau of Investigation CBI is interrogating former principal of R G Kar Medical College Sandip Ghosh and the Assistant Sub-Inspector of Kolkata Police Anup Dutta at Salt Lake CGO Complex. The arrested Sanjay Rai in the R G Kar case is close to the ASI.

 

Governor of West Bengal Dr C V Anada Bose has opened a mobile control room. The numbers are 033-22001641 and 9289010682. Any person can give information regarding the R G incident by dialing these numbers. The first call from the Mobile Control Room was made today by the governor to the father of the R G Kar victim.

 

Ruling Trinamool Congress and BJP have welcomed the ruling of the Supreme Court today. TMC’s spokesperson Kunal Ghosh has called today’s Supreme Court verdict positive and scientific. On the other hand, BJP has demanded resignation of chief minister Mamata Banerjee and removal of the commissioner of Kolkata Police. BJP has organized various protest rallies around Kolkata demanding justice for the R G Kar victim. BJP’s state president and Union Minister of State for Education Dr Sukanta Majumder has welcomed the verdict of the Supreme Court for the deployment of Central Industrial Security Force CISF at R G Kar Medical  College in Kolkata. On the other hand the resident and junior doctors of R G Kar Medical College and Hospital are continuing their strikes.

 

The Bar Association of Calcutta High Court’s Jalpaiguri Circuit Bench today took out a protest rally in Jalpaiguri town of West Bengal. A rally of lawyers was also reported at Barrackpore Sub Divisional Court in North 24 Parganas district today. The students and teachers of Sidho Kanho Birsha University of Purulia district also participated in a rally demanding justice in the R G Kar case.
