Prez Murmu lauds role of India origin people in growth and economic prosperity of Mauritius

President Droupadi Murmu today asserted that India is marching ahead to become the third largest economy in the world and urged Mauritian people to become part of New Delhi’s growth journey. Addressing the Indian Diaspora at the Mahatma Gandhi Institute and Rabindranath Tagore Institute in Mauritius, she lauded the role of India origin people in the growth and economic prosperity of Mauritius. The President also praised the Indian-origin people for keeping their tradition alive in Mauritius saying the recent Ram Lala Pran Prathistha in Ayodhya was also celebrated there with great fervour.

Earlier in the day, President Murmu was conferred upon Degree of Doctor of Civil Law at an event at the University of Mauritius. Speaking on the occasion, she highlighted the importance of close India-Mauritius ties and said the two countries are cherished partners in the Indian Ocean Region. She added that Mauritius is a key player in India’s Africa outreach and exhorted Mauritian youth to stay connected with India to nourish their proud past and invest in their bright future.

The President said, India is giving priority to education and empowering the youth to become a knowledge economy. She said, steps have been taken to set up new Universities and colleges especially in rural areas. She added that 400 new Universities, 75 Institute of Eminence, 14 new AIIMS, and 7 new IITs and IIMs were set up in the last decade. President Murmu lauded the National Education Policy stating that India is looking forward to tapping its demographic dividend to become a knowledge powerhouse. She also extended her warm greetings to the people of Mauritius on the occasion of National Day of Mauritius today. During the function, President of Mauritius Prithvirajsing Roopun, Prime Minister of Mauritius Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, and other dignitaries were also present.

Akashvani correspondent reports that during the second day of her visit to Mauritius today, President Murmu will also attend the National Day celebrations of Mauritius as Chief Guest.
