US President Donald Trump has issued new executive orders focused on immigration, including one aimed at strengthening the enforcement of English-language proficiency rules for commercial drivers like truckers. While the requirement has been in place for years, Mr Trump argued it has been largely ignored, putting public safety at risk.
Another executive order directs state and federal agencies to identify and publish lists of “sanctuary cities”, which are the areas where local governments often resist cooperation with federal immigration authorities.
In a separate development, the US House of Representatives has passed a bipartisan bill targeting the spread of deepfake pornography. The bill responds to mounting concerns over the misuse of artificial intelligence in creating manipulated explicit content.
