President Droupadi Murmu presents India Smart City Award in Indore; Calls for achieving Sustainable Development Goals in a set time frame

President Droupadi Murumu has called for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs, in a set time frame. Addressing the gathering after giving away awards to the winners of India Smart Cities Award content 2022 at the Smart Cities Conclave 2023 at Indore in Madhya Pradesh today, President Murmu said, local level participation is must for successful implementation of the SDGs.  President said, in cities like Indore, people participation has ensured clean and green city.

The President also pitched for taking more concerted efforts for ensuring women’s security in all cities. She said, several efforts in many parts of the country have already been taken.

Speaking on the occasion, Union Urban and Housing Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has said that Smart Cities Mission is a vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the development of entire country.  He said, the Smart Cities Mission, despite the corona pandemic, has performed well.

The Minister said, Smart Cities Mission is a key component of India’s objective of becoming a developed country by 2047.  Mr. Puri said, the Smart Cities Mission has sparked innovation in India’s urban ecosystems while also building core infrastructure and strengthening services in India’s 100 biggest cities.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said that public participation is must for the towards making cities smart and clean. He called for a healthy completion towards achieving cleanliness in every city of Madhya Pradesh.
