President of India Droupadi Murmu has pointed out that given an opportunity, girls perform far better than boys in their area of learning. Addressing the second convocation of Sri Sathya Sai University for Human Excellence at Muddenahalli in Karnataka, she said that during the recent Civil Service examination, the top four ranks were held by women.
The President called upon women in India to retain their traditional values and at the same time adopt modern skills to play an important role in the development of the country.
She said that Indian women coming out with flying colours in many competitive examinations is a reflection of a new India with a bright future. Saying that academic excellence is not the only dimension of academic life, the President mentioned the need for building character, inculcating social values, and nurturing the personality of the students.
She added that parents and Universities can play an important role in this direction.
Stressing the need to provide basic and reliable healthcare to everyone in society, the President said that the Union Government has introduced the largest health insurance policy that is providing healthcare facilities to the poor.
